US-Israel-Iran war led to sharp rise in crude oil prices, the US dollar and gold and silver.
NIFTY50 and SENSEX opened sharply lower on Monday amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The US and Israel carried out joint military operations against Iran, killing its supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran launched strikes on US assets across seven Gulf nations, including the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
The stock waves of the US-Israel-Iran strike were reflected across different asset classes. A sharp rise was witnessed in crude oil prices, the US dollar and safe-haven gold and silver.
Oil prices recorded their sharpest jump in four years after escalating US-Israeli military action against Iran sent shockwaves through global energy markets and effectively shut down the vital Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime passage off Iran that moves roughly one-fifth of the world's oil and significant volumes of natural gas
Brent crude spiked nearly 13% to as high as $82 per barrel, its highest level since January 2025. The sharp spike in oil prices is positive for upstream companies such as Oil India, ONGC and negative for companies such as Asian Paints, Indigo and downstream companies such as BPCL, HPCL and IOCL.
