RHI Magnesita India Limited, formerly known as Orient Refractories, is engaged in the manufacturing and trading of refractories, monolithic, bricks and ceramic paper. The company was incorporated in 2010 as a subsidiary of Orient Abrasives Limited.
Part of the RHI Magnesita Group, which is the global market leader in refractory business globally in terms of revenue, the company sells its products both in India and outside the country. Its product portfolio includes isostatically pressed continuous casting refractories, slide gate plates, nozzles and well blocks, tundish nozzles, and bottom purging refractories and top purging lances, slag arresting darts, castable, and alumina and magnesia carbon bricks, as well as spray mass for tundish working linings.
It also offers management services with engineering solutions, and complete project management from drawing and engineering, supply, installation and commissioning. RHI Magnesita India market capitalisation stood at over ₹13,200 crore as of February 17, 2024. RHIM share has surged 170% in the last three years.
RHI Magnesita Business operations
RHI Magnesita India's network spans 4 main offices and 26 site offices. The company owns and operates three manufacturing facilities located in Rajasthan's Bhiwadi, Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam and Odisha's Cuttack. In addition, it also has a franchise operation in Salem Tamil Nadu for manufacturing basic spray mass.
RHI Magnesita India Ltd was formed after the amalgamation of three Indian subsidiaries of RHI Magnesita Group – RHI Clasil, RHI India and Orient Refractories Ltd.
The erstwhile RHI AG acquired a 69.6% stake in ORL in 2013, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global refractory company. The company had an annual turnover of ₹626 Crore for FY18 before the integration of the Indian subsidiaries of RHI Magnesita.
RHI India Pvt Ltd, an Indian subsidiary of RHI Magnesita Group, offered refractory products and services to the Indian steel industry. Before the integration of the companies under the umbrella of RHI Mangestia India Ltd, RHI India Pvt Ltd had an annual turnover of ₹498 crore for FY18.
The third company, forming RHI Magnesita India -- RHI Clasil Pvt Ltd-- was a leading manufacturer of high alumina-based refractory products with its plant in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh. The company was incorporated in 2006, following the acquisition of 51% shares of Clasil Refractories Pvt. Ltd by erstwhile RHI AG. It used to supply refractory products to RHI Magnesita globally. RHI Clasil had reported an annual turnover of ₹266 crore in FY18, before the merger with RHI Magnesita India.
Focusing on expansion, RHI Magnesita India completed the acquisition of two leading refractory businesses in India – the Indian refractory business of Dalmia Bharat Refractories Ltd and the refractory business of Hi-Tech Chemicals— during FY 2022-23.

⦁ The company's total income in FY23 stood at ₹2741.14 crore, up 36.7 % year-on-year compared to ₹2,004.8 crore in FY22. ⦁ The company reported a loss of ₹465.65 crore in FY23 as against a profit of ₹269 crore in FY22. ⦁ Its total capital expenditure stood at ₹42.3 crore in FY23. ⦁ The company’s adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) grew 11.5% to ₹438.8 in FY23. ⦁ Its basic earnings per share (EPS) decreased to ₹(-27.85) in FY23 compared to ₹16.71 in FY22.
