Minda Corp

Minda Corporation Limited is the leading manufacturer of automotive components in India. Minda Corp supplies parts and components to manufacturers of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and scooters, and off-road vehicles. It serves Tier-1 manufacturers by supplying die castings, gear locks, interior products, and mechanical components.

The company was incorporated in 1981 with the name Tarapur Cables Private Limited. Initially, the company dealt with wiring, horns and lamps in the automotive segment. In 1985, the company changed its name to Minda Wirelinks and started manufacturing for Indian clients and expanded to markets outside India.

In 1994, Minda Corp became a public limited company. The company also started with global distribution and joint ventures. It entered into a partnership with Huf Hulsbeck Furst GmbH & Co. of Germany to enter the ignition switches segment in 1996. The company was renamed as Minda Huf Limited.

In 2003-04, the auto ancillaries company started the production and sales of electronic security systems for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai, and Hero Honda. It also started catering to the replacement market of India. The company acquired Sylea Automotive India in 2003 and its name was changed to Minda Sai Limited. The company entered the door systems market with a diversification inside the company structure to serve the Indian OEMs with European standards and service assistance. They also discontinued their four-wheeler security systems business in the same year to focus on new product lines for the market. The company acquired KTSN Kunststoffechnik Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG of Germany to expand the business in the European market. This move also made the latest technology in the field of interior systems available to the company.

In 2009-10, the company acquired the die-casting surface finishing and other business for four-wheelers. It established a design centre in Japan in the following years. Since 2010, the company has added innovative products and strong quality to their portfolio. Since the entry of electric vehicles in India, the company has also ventured into the production of EV components.

Minda Corp recently entered into a technology license agreement with Daesung Eltec, Korea, for ADAS systems and solutions for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and off road vehicles.
