Gati

Gati Ltd, now known as Allcargo Gati Ltd, is one of India’s leading players in express distribution and supply chain solutions. The company is credited as a pioneer in the logistics segment in the country. Founded in 1989, Gati's network covers over 19,800 PIN codes and 735 districts in India. Gati is engaged in the movement of cargo using multiple transport models – road, rail, air and sea.

Business operations

Gati started its operation in 1995. The company teamed up with Indian Airlines in 1996 to offer services to its customers at affordable rates. It introduced the concept of third-party logistics (3PL) in the Indian market. The company offered complete logistics and supply chain management solutions.

Gati Ltd broadened its presence in the international cargo space with tie-ups with the Maldives and Bhutan postal departments. In 2000, the company was renamed from Gati Corporation to Gati Ltd. A year later, it launched the first exclusive hi-tech and high-speed cargo train between Mumbai and Kolkata in partnership with the Indian Railways.

In FY 2004, Gati introduced WorldWide Saver to cater to the bulk mailing requirements of customers serving them to various international destinations. Gati further strengthened its partnership with Indian Airlines and launched Gati Gold and Gati Silver services for quick air delivery of time-sensitive consignments.

The company launched Gati Saver in the small segment in 2004. By 2005, it introduced direct coast-to-coast service connecting Chennai and Yangon in Myanmar. It also set up a new office at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

After setting up a regional office in Singapore in 2004, the company made its move to the Chinese market and set up an office in Beijing in 2005. The fuel station division of the firm was de-merged and the business was transferred to a wholly owned subsidiary.

In FY 2007, Gati set up a data centre at its head office in Secunderabad to house all the servers and storage. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Railway Express International Logistics Company for rail and road cargo package delivery. As part of the deal, both companies would work together to offer end-to-end distribution solutions from anywhere in India to anywhere in China and vice versa.

In FY 2008, the company entered into a strategic sales alliance with the General Logistics System (GLS) of Europe.

The company was acquired in 2020 by Allcargo Logistics, which is now its promoter and single largest shareholder.

Allcargo Gati Ltd's market capitalisation was over ₹1,600 crore as of December 30, 2023. Gati share price has gone up 38% in the last three years.
