Stock Market Highlights: Markets recover from 8-day bear run, Nifty above 22,950; Sensex up over 57 points

Stock market on February 17: Benchmark indices ended the 8-day losing run on Monday after trading in the red for most of the day. 20 out of 30 stocks on Sensex ended higher today, while 34 stocks on NIFTY50 ended in the green. Among the major gainers, Adani Enterprises and Bajaj Finserv ended 4% and 2% up, respectively.

  1. Stock market today: Key highlights

    • After trading in the red for almost the entire trading session on Monday, the equity benchmark indices ended marginally higher, ending the eight-day losing streak.

    • BSE SENSEX on February 17 ended at 75,996.86 up 57.65 points, or 0.08%. NSE's NIFTY50 index ended at 22,959.50, up 30.25 points, or 0.13%.

    • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said that India is delivering good returns to investors who are booking profits, which fueled the market gains.

    • FPIs (foreign portfolio investors) offloaded shares worth ₹21,272 crore from Indian equities so far this month (till February 14).

    • Among the NIFTY50 stocks, 34 ended in the green while the rest 16 ended in the red. The top five gainers on the index were Adani Entertainment, Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Power Grid and Adani Ports. Moreover, the top five losers were Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), Bharti Airtel, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and ICICI Bank.
