Stock Market Highlights: NIFTY50 settles above 23,300, SENSEX climbs 557 points to 76,905

Stock market today: Indian stock market indices on Friday settled in the green, extending their winning streak for the fifth consecutive day. NIFTY50 ended 0.6% up at 23,350.40 and SENSEX settled 0.7% higher at 76,905.51. In the last five sessions, S&P BSE SENSEX has gained nearly 2614 points, while NIFTY50 has climbed 3.6% during the period.

  1. Stock market on March 21: Key highlights

    • Indian equity benchmark indices closed in the green on Friday, extending gains for the fifth straight session with the broader market continuing to outperform.

    • During the intraday trade on March 21, SENSEX crossed the 77,000 mark, while NIFTY50 surged above 23,400 level. NIFTY50 hit the 23,400 mark for the first time in two months.

    • At the end of the session, SENSEX stood at 76,905.51, up 557.45 points, and NIFTY50 was at 23,350.40, up 159.75 points. This week, as many as 48 stocks advanced on the SENSEX.

    • Out of the 2,988 stocks trading on NIFTY on Friday, 2,120 advanced, 804 declined and 64 scrips were unchanged.

    • From 50 stocks on the NIFTY50 index, 38 advanced and only 12 traded in the red. The top gainers on the index were SBI Life Insurance, NTPC, ONGC, Bajaj Finance and Bharat Petroleum, gaining up to 3.4%. On the other hand, the top losers were Trent, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), Wipro, Hindalco and Infosys, plunging by up to 1.6%.

    At the close on Friday, NIFTY50 was 159.75 points (0.69%) up at 23,350.40, while SENSEX ended 557.45 points (0.73%) higher at 76,905.51. As many as 25, out of 30 stocks on the SENSEX, advanced on March 21.
