Authorised Partners (AP) act as agents associated with the SEBI-registered brokerage houses. They sell the services offered by the broking houses and help to expand the client base of the firm. In return, they earn a commission of a certain percentage, which is the main source of income from this franchise business. Here, we will uncover different ways to become a successful authorised partner and run the business successfully.
Authorised partners, popularly known as the authorised person, are those individuals who provide guidance regarding investment to their clients. To operate as an AP, one must get themselves registered with SEBI.
SEBI-registered stock broking firms offer a franchise to individuals or any entity to work as an authorised partner. APs perform multiple tasks, such as bringing new clients, providing guidance, generating brokerage and selling relevant financial products to clients. In return, they earn a commission.
Authorised Partners perform multiple tasks to expand the broking business and earn commissions through it. The core responsibilities are:
Onboarding new clients is a primary task of an authorised person. Helping clients open a demat and trading account and making them familiar with the investing process.
To provide investment guidance to new and existing clients. APs do market analyses and guide clients to execute trades.
Facilitates buy/ sell trade execution through the broker's platforms on behalf of clients. The power of attorney allows APs to execute trades on behalf of clients.
Authorised partners job is to retain the existing clients for the long-term. APs built trust by providing honest advice and helping clients to achieve financial goals.
In this competitive market, running a successful authorised partner business is not easy. However, there are some predefined ways to become successful in this, as follows:
Choosing a reputed, well-established broking firm is important. Clients prefer to connect with a reputed brand name, and trust is built in just a few calls. An authorised person working with a reputable brand might have a high conversion ratio in terms of acquiring new clients and providing investment guidance.
To become successful, an AP must maintain a strong client relationship. Not only with new clients but also with existing clients. APs invest time in providing financial literacy to their clients, which helps them to make informed decisions.
Modern APs rely on technology to manage clients’ trades and to provide real-time market information. APs also use CRM systems for seamless client onboarding, communication and reporting.
Authorised partners can be active on social media to reach a large number of client base. Social media campaigns, email campaigns, and short informative market-related videos help AP to attract more clients.
APs can build networks by attending seminars, promoting the broking company, collaborating with financial planners and other professionals. Networking helps to generate relevant leads that can be converted into business.
Authorised partners can adapt to market changes quickly. The regulatory changes, competition from other brokers, etc., are part of business.
Becoming an authorised partner can be a reward in the long term if done correctly. Initially, APs work hard to acquire new clients and maintain relationships. Once the client's base reaches a certain threshold of active traders and investors, APs enjoy the passive income earned from the commissions generated from brokerage.
The good part is that every time the investor or trader places a trade, a small portion of the brokerage’s commission is added to your revenue. This business can be run on auto pilot mode.
