Nava Limited is a multi-product conglomerate spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha. It is mainly involved in power generation, ferroalloys and sugar, mining activities and biofuels.
The company was incorporated in 1972 as Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys Limited (NBFA). It began operations and manufacturing ferroalloys in 1975 with a ferr-silicon factory. Over the coming years, it started manufacturing and selling multiple ferroalloy materials. In 1980, NBFA obtained a licence to start a calcium silicide furnace with a capacity of 2500 tonnes per year. The same year, The Deccan Sugar & Abkhari Company was amalgamated with NBFA and became the company's sugar division.
In 1983, NBFA sought government approval to increase the production capacity of the Calcium Silicide furnace to 8000 tonnes per annum. In 1997, when the market was affected by poor offtake from domestic steel factories, Nava Limited got into an agreement with Energomachexport, Moscow, and the USSR to supply machinery and technical know-how to set up a manufacturing plant of calcium silicide. Nav Bharat Ferro Alloy Limited started a new journey of power generation with the expansion of the Paloncha plant in 1999.
In 2003, Deccan Sugar, their sugar brand, entered the market with retail sales. In 2004, Nava Limited started commercial operations of a 30MW power plant in Odisha. In 2006, the company's name was changed to Nava Bharat Ventures Limited and launched a power plant of 64 MW capacity. The company built the Hyderabad Metro Rail in 2008. In 2012, another 64MW power plant was set up by Nava Bharat Ventures Limited.
