November auto sales: Maruti Suzuki car sales rise 8% YoY, here’s how major automakers fared

Auto companies released their monthly sales data for November 2024 over the weekend, depicting a mixed trend in the market. While domestic car sales showed strong growth last month, supported by the wedding and festive season, sales of commercial vehicles declined. Two-wheeler sales were decent, too, but the trend was not uniform across all two-wheeler manufacturers.

Here’s a look at the domestic sales figures for leading auto companies for the month of November 2024.

Four-Wheeler Sales

  • India’s largest passenger vehicles company Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s domestic car sales grew 8.1% to 1.53 lakh units compared with 1.41 lakh units a year ago. Total sales, including exports, stood at 1.81 lakh units, up 10.4% compared to 1.64 lakh units in November 2023.
  • Another market leader Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) saw a marginal 2% decline in domestic sales to 48,246 units compared with 49,451 units a year ago. Total sales, including exports, stood at 61,252 units in November 2024.
  • Tata Motors saw a 2% jump in domestic sales of its passenger vehicles in November compared with a year ago. The company sold a total of 47,063 cars in the domestic market last month, which includes sales of electric vehicles. Last year, this number stood at 46,068 units.
  • JSW MG Motor India reported a 20% rise in wholesale sales in November compared with the previous month. The company sold 6,019 units in the domestic markets last month.
  • Toyota Kirloskar Motor experienced a massive 44% surge in domestic sales, reaching 25,586 units in November 2024, up from 17,818 units last year. The company said that this surge was largely driven by a strong demand for SUVs.
  • Honda Cars India Ltd was the worst performer in terms of passenger vehicle sales in November. The company dispatched a total of 5,005 units in the domestic market last month, which was 42.6% lower than the 8,730 units sold in November 2023.

Two-Wheeler Sales

  • India’s largest two-wheeler company Hero MotoCorp Ltd registered a 7.7% decline in two-wheeler sales in the domestic market in November against the sales figures in the same month a year ago. The company sold a total of 4.4 lakh scooters and bikes in the domestic market compared with 4.76 lakh units a year ago.
  • TVS Motor Co. Ltd saw its two-wheeler sales growing 12% to 3.92 lakh units in November 2024 compared to a year ago. Total sales stood at 4.01 lakh units, representing a 10.2% increase from 3.64 lakh units in November 2023. - Eicher Motors’ motorcycle division has reported 2% rise in sales at 82,257 units in November 2024 as compared to 80,251 motorcycles sold in November 2023. The company’s sales of models with engine capacity up to 350 cc decreased by 4% at 71,261 units in November 2024 against 74,275 units in the same period a year ago. Notably, the category above 350cc engine capacity saw 84% jump in the sales at 10,996 units in November 2024 as against 5,976 units in November last year.
  • Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd, the two-wheeler arm of the Japanese auto giant, registered sales of 78,333 units in the domestic market in November, which was 7% higher from 73,135 units sold in the same period last year.

Commercial Vehicles And Tractors

  • Escorts Kubota sold 8,730 tractors domestically, marking an 8.1% drop from the previous year. Total sales, including exports, fell 9.4% year-on-year, totalling 8,974 units.
  • Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle segment witnessed a 1% decline in domestic sales in November. Sales in the segment fell to 26,183 units last month compared with 26,579 a year ago.
