Does Health Insurance Include Dental and Vision Care?

Whether or not your health insurance plan covers dental and vision depends on the type of insurance plan you opt for. Most health insurance plans don’t include dental and vision care in the standard plan, except in case of accidents or severe blindness.

Cosmetic procedures like teeth straightening or LASIK surgeries below a certain power aren’t covered. Your dental and vision care is included in the OPD benefits. In the event of accidental injury or side effects due to underlying conditions like diabetes, dental and vision care are provided.

Since dental and vision care aren’t included in the standard health insurance plan, it's recommended to do your due diligence before opting for an insurance plan.

Process of Dental & Vision Coverage

If your existing health insurance doesn't cover dental and vision care, you can pay an additional premium to add it to your plan. This is feasible if you often face dental or vision issues and wish to have insurance for your medical expenses.

Do note, despite paying an additional premium, you may have to complete a waiting period, I.e, the time within which you can't make a claim. This waiting period can range from 6 months to a few years, depending on your medical history. Your dental and vision coverage is available only up to a specific limit mentioned in your insurance policy.

You can have a routine eye check-up once in a policy year under the vision insurance.

Spectacles or Contact Lenses

Expenses for ophthalmologists prescribed corrective spectacles or contact lenses are covered.

Cataract surgeries are included under daycare procedures up to the limit specified in the health insurance policy.

Lasik Surgery Coverage
