Founded in 1979, Shriram Finance is one of the largest players in the financial services sector. The non-banking finance company (NBFC) is primarily focused in the retail and business loan segments.
Shriram Finance Limited is a merged entity formed after the amalgamation of Shriram City Union Finance Limited (SCUF) and Shriram Capital Limited (SCL) with Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited (STFC) in 2021. The merged entity could cater to a larger customer base with the help of greater efficiencies in operations and better product servicing.
Initially, the company began its journey in 1979 as an NBFC with primary interest in asset financing. Today, Shriram Finance provides financing options for business and personal use as well as loans for cars, trucks, houses, gold and small businesses. It is a part of the Shriram Group, a 49-year-old diversified financial services conglomerate.
The company launched its initial public offering (IPO) in 1984. The company is listed on both BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Shriram Finance business operations
The product portfolio of the company has become wider and more diverse following its amalgamation in the year 2021. Currently, the company’s product portfolio comprises commercial vehicle financing as the dominating segment (50.24%). This segment has Assets Under Management (AUM) worth ₹93,294.9 crore as of March 2023. The segment is characterised by features like competitive rates of interest, finance facility for new as well as used vehicles, flexible repayment tenures and terms and fast disbursals.
This segment is followed by passenger vehicles (18.24% of total portfolio), MSME (10.29% of total portfolio) and construction equipment (7.74% of total portfolio). The company’s other financing services comprise two-wheeler, gold, farm equipment loans. In the retail credit segment, the company primarily offers personal loans.
The company played a crucial role in propagating financial inclusion in the country by means of providing reasonably priced financing facility to first time buyers (FTBs) of commercial vehicles and to small road transport operators (SRTO).
Shriram Finance has a huge presence in rural areas and small towns across India. As per the 2022-23 annual report of the company, has a network of 2922 branches, 732 rural centres and an employee base of 64,052 workers. It also has entered into partnerships with more than 500 private financiers. The company caters to more than 73 lakh customers across the country.
