Not just Central Government employees, but even the members of Parliament seem to be very much interested in getting a status update on the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC).
Since January 2025, several members have sought details on the 8th CPC formation from the Government. On all such occasions, the Government has acknowledged that the decision to set up the 8th CPC has been made. But it has not shared any further details.
The status check on the 8th Pay Commission formation was done again in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (March 25, 2025).
In a combined question, three Rajya Sabha members - Shambhu Sharan Patel, Madan Rathore, and Kiran Choudhry - asked the Minister of Finance to reply on "whether the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has been approved; if so, the details thereof."
In a written reply to the above query, Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State for Finance, said, "It has been decided by the Government to constitute the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC)."
However, Chaudhary didn't share any other details about the terms of the 8th Pay Commission.
The official further told Moneycontrol that the government will issue a formal notification after the terms of the 8th CPC are approved by the Cabinet. And the new pay commission may begin its work from April itself.
According to the report, the 8th CPC may submit its report by March 2026 if it is constituted by the end of March 2025.
