NIFTY ends flat after hitting 26,000 mark, SENSEX snaps 3-day gaining streak: Check top gainers and losers
Benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY retreated from record high levels to close flat due to fag-end selling in a volatile session on Tuesday, September 24.
The 50-issue NSE NIFTY breached the 26,000 level for the first time, hitting an all-time intraday high of 26,011.55. The index, however, pared gains to close flat at 25,940, up by 1.35 points or 0.01%, registering its all-time closing high.

Gains in metal and pharma shares helped the NIFTY extend gains for the fourth straight day.
Benchmark SENSEX snapped its three-day rising streak and closed lower by 14.57 points, or 0.02%, at 84,914. Losses in HUL, ICICI Bank Kotak Bank and Reliance Industries dragged the index into the negative.
SENSEX moved between a high of 85,163 points and a low of 84,716 points during the day. Due to volatility, the index oscillated between losses and gains.
Broader markets saw a mixed trend as NIFTY Midcap indices advanced up to 0.4% while smallcap indices dropped up to 0.75%.
Among sectoral indices, NIFTY PSU Bank dropped the most by 0.87%, while NIFTY FMCG dropped 0.73%. NIFTY metal soared 2.99%.
Tata Steel spurted more than 4% to settle near the day’s high at ₹160.65 per share on the NSE. Hindalco rallied more than 4% to hit a 52-week high of ₹719.7 apiece. The stock closed higher ₹719, up by 4.12%.
