L&T secures order worth ₹1000-₹2,500 crore for solar-cum-energy storage plant
Larsen and Toubro (L&T), an Indian multinational company engaged in EPC projects, has won an order to build a grid-connected 185 megawatt (MW) solar PV plant accompanied by 254 megawatt-hour (MWH) battery energy storage system (BESS).
The order win is “significant”, which is the company's terminology for orders worth in the range of ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crore.
The 254 MWH BESS, will facilitate storing of solar energy when the market demand is low. When the market demand is high, it can release the energy stored. The BESS will also facilitate the smooth functioning of power generation, frequency regulation and voltage storage.
The solar PV plant will be established in Kajra, located in Bihar’s Lakshisarai district, L&T said. The plant will play a crucial role in harnessing the state’s renewable energy for sustainable energy solutions. It will also tackle climate change and meet the demand for growth, it added.
“This is a welcome addition to our renewable EPC portfolio of 18 GWp (gigawatt peak) cumulative capacity, comprising solar and wind generation projects already commissioned and in the making. On the battery energy storage system front, we handle more than 1.5 GWh of storage capacity. This rich experience has made us the EPC partner of choice for developers globally,” said A Ravindran, Senior Vice President of L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution vertical.
Shares of L&T closed 0.17% higher at ₹3,541 on Monday, June 24.
