The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which is responsible for issuing Aadhaar (a unique 12-digit identification number) to all residents of India, recently announced that individuals can now update their documents by submitting proofs of identity and address to support personal details including name, gender and date of birth.

Documents can be updated online easily through the myAadhaar portal. The process is fairly simple and can be done with valid address proofs or even Address Verification Letters.

As per the recommendations of the central government, Aadhaar cardholders must update their documents every 10 years. This will help UIDAI to ensure the accuracy of the database and to improve services related to Aadhaar-based verification.

UIDAI has advocated updating Aadhaar many times saying that it ensures ease of living, better service delivery and accurate authentication.
