Date of birth and gender on Aadhaar cards can only be changed once
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which is responsible for issuing Aadhaar (a unique 12-digit identification number) to all residents of India, recently announced that individuals can now update their documents by submitting proofs of identity and address to support personal details including name, gender and date of birth.
Documents can be updated online easily through the myAadhaar portal. The process is fairly simple and can be done with valid address proofs or even Address Verification Letters.
As per the recommendations of the central government, Aadhaar cardholders must update their documents every 10 years. This will help UIDAI to ensure the accuracy of the database and to improve services related to Aadhaar-based verification.
UIDAI has advocated updating Aadhaar many times saying that it ensures ease of living, better service delivery and accurate authentication.
Residents of India can get their Aadhaar card updated until December 14, 2024 for no charge. After the deadline, Aadhaar cardholders will be charged for updating the details.
One can track the status of the update request through the Service Request Number (SRN) received by email.
Document update can also be done at Aadhaar centres for ₹50. To submit updated documents, one must visit the Bhuvan Aadhaar Portal to find centres near them by entering location details. The nearest centres can also be searched using PIN codes.
Biometric update must be done physically at Aadhaar centres. For ages 5 to 17, the update services are free and for those above 17, ₹100 will be charged.
To update demographic details like gender, date of birth, mobile number, email address, etc., one must visit an Aadhaar centre. If it is done along with the biometric update, one will not be charged anything. However, if it is done separately, ₹50 will be the fee for demographic update.
Date of birth and gender can only be changed once.
