NBFC (Non Banking Financial Companies) are RBI-registered institutions that involved in financial activities like loans, investments or hire-purchase. To qualify as an NBFC, a company's financial assets should be more than 50% of its total assets and financial income should be more than 50% of its total income. Unlike Banks, NBFCs are not allowed to provide current and saving deposits and do not take part in payment and settlement system NBFCs are instrumental to the economy in many ways. They are the source of credit access through loans, they aid in the acquisition of assets by individuals and businesses through leasing and hire-purchase, and also channel funds through investments. Specialized NBFCs, such as Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) helps in financing of the the housing sector, while Infrastructure Finance Companies (IFCs) play a role in developing crucial infrastructure
