OpenAI, an American artificial intelligence research company founded in December 2015 and backed by Microsoft, is planning to release a reasoning-focused artificial intelligence (AI) in the next two weeks.
News agency Reuters reported on Tuesday, September 10, citing a report by the technology industry–focused business publication The Information, that the Sam Altman-led AI company is planning on releasing the AI known as ‘Strawberry’ which is different from conversational AI models that exist in the market as it has the ability to ‘think’ before responding to the users’ input as opposed to instantly responding to it. The report by The Information was sourced from two people who have tested out the model.
An exclusive report by Reuters in July disclosed that ChatGPT’s maker OpenAI is working on a project code-named ‘Strawberry’ citing a person familiar with the matter and internal documentation reviewed by the news agency.
When questioned about ‘Strawberry’, an OpenAI spokesperson said in a statement, “We want our AI models to see and understand the world more like we do. Continuous research into new AI capabilities is a common practice in the industry, with a shared belief that these systems will improve in reasoning over time,” as reported by Reuters.
OpenAI said last week that it has over 1 million paying users for its several business products. The wide user base is supported by the strong adoption of its chatbot aided by its advanced large language model (LLM). The company has been investing heavily in AI as businesses around the world are racing to capitalise on AI to grow their products.
According to the report, ‘Strawberry’ will be a part of ChatGPT but it is not clear as of now how it will function. It added that the initial version of the advanced AI will only be able to generate text and not images.
