SUMMARY
At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at 78,248.13, down 451 points, or 0.51%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index ended at 23,644.90, down 169 points, or 0.71%.
Out of 50 components in the NIFTY50 index, 38 declined, 11 gained, and 1 stock remained unchanged
The Federal Reserve, in its latest policy meeting, projected a slower pace of rate cuts in 2025, which has boosted US Treasury yields. These two factors have lowered the lure of emerging market assets.
Moreover, muted Asian stocks and weak European peers, too, weighed on the sentiment. Besides, the weak rupee and continuous selling by overseas investors also dented sentiment.
At close, the S&P BSE SENSEX stood at 78,248.13, down 451 points, or 0.51%, while the NSE's NIFTY50 index ended at 23,644.90, down 169 points, or 0.71%.
Out of 50 components in the NIFTY50 index, 38 declined, 11 gained, and 1 stock remained unchanged.
The top five losers were Hindalco Industries, Tata Motors, Trent, BEL, and Wipro.
The biggest loser on the index was Tata Motors (down over 2.20%).
As many as 4,267 stocks traded on the BSE. Out of this, 2,636 scrips declined, 1,487 advanced, while 144 stocks remained unchanged.
Further, 186 stocks hit their 52-week highs, while 117 stocks touched their 52-week lows.
Besides, eight stocks hit their upper circuit limits, and three stocks touched their lower circuit bands.
Under an agreement signed between Adani Commodities LLP (ACL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of AEL, and Lence Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Wilmar International Ltd, Lence will acquire ACL’s 31.06% stake in Adani Wilmar.
The BSE MidCap index ended at 46,386.35, up 61 points, or 0.13%, while the BSE SmallCap index ended at 54,789.44, down 259 points, or 0.47%.
Banks, capital goods, metals, realty, and industrial stocks were the significant losers on the BSE.
The BSE BANKEX index ended at 57,678.68, down 538.33 points, or 0.92%.
On the other hand, healthcare stocks gained the most.
The BSE Healthcare index settled at 45,166.88, up 528.77 points, or 1.18%.
