Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella received a pay package of $79.1 million, or ₹665.15 crore, in 2024, the company said in an exchange filing on Thursday, October 24.

Nadella’s pay of $79.1 million in FY24 is 63% higher than the $48.5 million he received the previous year.

Highest compensation since 2014

The compensation this year is the highest that Satya Nadella has received since he was paid $84 million when he became the Chairman and CEO of the company in 2014.

As per the regulatory filing, 90% of Nadella’s pay was in the form of a stock award worth $71.2 million.

His non-equity compensation was worth $5.2 million, half the $10.7 million he was eligible for.

Nadella also received $169.7 thousand under “All Other Compensation.” The Microsoft CEO’s salary was just $2.5 million, a mere 3% of the total $79.1 million.

The regulatory filing revealed that Satya Nadella had asked for a reduction in his pay package following multiple cybersecurity breaches, including the “Blue Screen of Death” fiasco, reported this fiscal.

Cybersecurity breach

In April, the US Department of Homeland Security announced the need to prioritise security amidst breaches from Chinese and Russian cybercriminals who gained access to key accounts on Microsoft Cloud. This breach impacted both private and government clients.

Blue Screen of Death

On Friday, July 19, Windows users across the globe experienced a “Blue Screen of Death,” or BSOD error, which caused their systems to shut down or restart unexpectedly.

This was caused due to an update from CrowdStrike, a US-based cybersecurity firm that was employed by Microsoft.

Since then, Microsoft has completely overhauled its security, with Nadella volunteering to compensate for the budget changes for increased cybersecurity measures from his pay.
