Sales of Maruti Suzuki's e VITARA is expected to begin in summer 2025 across Europe, India, and Japan.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country's largest carmaker, on Friday announced its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment with its first eBorn SUV, the e VITARA. The production-ready EV, which was recently unveiled by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Milan, Italy, will be showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
The e VITARA is built on the HEARTECT-e platform, designed exclusively for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
“The e VITARA is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainable mobility and technological innovation,” said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, MSIL.
Banerjee said the company has “combined advanced electric technology with a customer-first approach to deliver something truly transformative.”
“At Maruti Suzuki, we have always believed that to promote EV adoption, we need to create a holistic ecosystem that simplifies customers' battery electric vehicle ownership journey,” he added.
The company plans to introduce a “reliable and comprehensive” EV ecosystem alongside e VITARA to address challenges like limited charging infrastructure. This will include home charging solutions and a nationwide network of fast chargers at Maruti Suzuki dealerships and service centres, Banerjee said.
“Our goal is to make EVs accessible, convenient, and appealing to a broader set of customers, and this is exactly what we have set out to achieve with the e VITARA,” he added.
According to media reports, the e VITARA's electric 4WD system, branded as ALLGRIP-e, is expected to deliver off-road capabilities with two independent eAxles at the front and rear. The ALLGRIP-e system includes a Trail Mode, enabling the SUV to tackle rough terrain by braking spinning tyres and redistributing torque as needed.
The e VITARA will come with two battery options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. While it is unclear if both options will be available in India, the SUV is expected to achieve a range of around 400 km on a single charge. The 49 kWh variant will produce 142 bhp and 189 Nm of torque in its 2WD configuration, while the 61 kWh version boosts power to 172 bhp in the 2WD variant and offers up to 300 Nm of torque in the 4WD version.
Sales are slated to begin in the summer of 2025 across Europe, India, and Japan, Suzuki Motor Corporation revealed last month.
