RBI Monetary Policy Meeting 2024: The reconstituted six-member rate-setting panel of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) led by Governor Shaktikanta Das will announce the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Wednesday, October 9.

The panel started deliberations on monetary policy on Monday amid expectations of no change in interest rates, given inflation concerns and the risk of an ignition in the Middle East crisis that could pump commodity prices.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, who is also the chairman of the MPC, will declare the monetary policy statement, including repo and reverse repo rates, at 10 am on October 9.

RBI Monetary Policy meeting: Members

Last week, the government appointed three new members to the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). Saugata Bhattacharya, Ram Singh, and Nagesh Kumar will replace Shashanka Bhide, Jayanth R Varma, and Ashima Goyal as MPC's external members.

Apart from Governor Das, the other internal members are the RBI Deputy Governor in charge of monetary policy, Michael Debabrata Patra, and the Executive Director of the RBI monetary policy department, Rajiv Ranjan.

The RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.5% since February 2023. Experts believe the MPC might refrain from rate cuts until the December meeting.
