ACC rises on an expansion plan
The cement maker plans to expand its plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Tikaria by 1.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This will be in addition to the existing capacity at the plant of 2.3 MTPA, taking the total capacity to 3.9 MTPA.
The management said that the decision to kickstart capacity expansion comes at a time when cement demand is expected to increase in India. Meanwhile, shares of ACC rose 3.8% yesterday as the markets rebounded.
SpiceJet soars on a profitable Q3
Shares of the low-cost carrier rose 8% yesterday after the company posted a standalone net profit of ₹23 crore in the December quarter. In comparison, it had reported a loss of ₹56 crore in the same period last year.
The profit was aided by a 34% year-on-year rise in revenue to ₹2,259 crore. The management said that passenger traffic rebounded as new cases ebbed and travel picked up significantly. It added that the logistic segment continues to be strong.
Oil drops on Russian pullback
The prices of oil dropped by 3% yesterday after Russia announced that some of its troops are going back to their bases from the Ukrainian border. Oil prices had hit their seven-year high on Monday as Russia, which is one of the major oil producers, ramped up deployment of military units near Ukraine’s border.
Investors are also monitoring the revival of the Tehran nuclear deal between the US and Iran. This could lead to the possibility of an increase in oil exports from Iran. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil prices were trading at $93 per barrel yesterday.
