History of L&T Group

Larsen & Toubro was founded in 1938 by two Danish engineers, Henning Holck Larsen and Soren Kristian Toubro who started the company as a small engineering firm in Mumbai. Initially, L&T focused on supplying dairy and chemical equipment but later expanded into infrastructure and construction. During India’s industrialisation L&T played a key role in building large-scale projects, including bridges, highways and power plants. In the 1990s, the company diversified into finance, IT services and defence technology strengthening its presence in multiple sectors.
