As highlighted by SEBI, fraudsters are using new tactics to scam market participants, leading to the loss of their hard-earned money.
As part of our ongoing efforts to keep you safe, here are some common scams to watch out for:
Strategy 1: “We’ll trade for you” promises
Fraudsters offer to handle your account and promise risk-free profits. They may ask for your login credentials and claim they’ll share profits. In reality:
- They take their share upfront
- Any losses are left for you to bear
Strategy 2: Fake STT notices
Scammers may send fake notices (using SEBI letterheads) asking you to pay Securities Transaction Tax (STT) to a bank account.
Important: SEBI never sends such notices.
STT is automatically deducted when you place trades on Upstox.
Keep these points in mind to stay protected:
- Never share your Upstox login credentials with anyone
- Use only SEBI-registered platforms and intermediaries
- Do not transfer money for “taxes” or “fees” to personal accounts or numbers
- Always use the official Upstox App and website
