VIP Industries to hike prices
According to reports, homegrown luggage major VIP Industries has said that it is likely to hike prices by at least 5% in March or April this year. The management has reportedly said that the price hike will help in improving margins.
The profitability of the company has been impacted by rising raw material prices. With the Omicron threat waning, the management is upbeat about future prospects and expects business to reach pre-pandemic levels this year. Meanwhile, shares of VIP Industries were up 3% yesterday.
High inflation due to unfavourable base: RBI
The Indian central bank has attributed the increase in prices in December 2021 to an unfavourable base effect. However, it added that the larger buffer stock of cereals and effective supply-side measures augur well for food inflation, which has remained elevated.
It’s important to note that the RBI kept the key rates unchanged at the recent meeting despite high inflation. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 continues to be volatile.
