Chhath Puja 2024 bank holiday: Banks closed for four straight days in some states; check list

Chhath Puja 2024 bank holiday: On the occasion of Chhath Puja, banks will remain shut for four consecutive days from November 7 to November 10 (including the second Saturday and Sunday) in some states.

Chhath Puja, which is celebrated every year, honours Lord Surya and his sister Chhathi Maiya, Devi Prakriti's sixth form. The festival's fasting procedures and rituals are tough, but it is believed that observing them brings immense spiritual benefits.

It is majorly observed in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.

• November 7 (Thursday): Banks will be closed in Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand on the occasion of Chhath Puja evening Arghya.
• November 8 (Friday): Banks will remain shut in Jharkhand, Bihar, and Meghalaya to mark the Chhath Puja morning Arghya and Wangala festivals.
• November 9: Second Saturday
• November 10: Sunday

• November 12 (Tuesday): In Uttarakhand, banking operations will be shut due to Egaas-Bagwaal festival.
• November 15 (Friday): Guru Nanak Jayanti, Rahas Purnima, and Karthika Purnima will be observed on this date. Banks will be closed in Maharashtra, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Orissa, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Srinagar, and Jharkhand.
• November 17: Sunday
• November 18 (Monday): Kanakadasa Jayanti will be observed in Karnataka on this date.

While the bank branches will be closed on the dates mentioned above, customers need not worry. They can transact anytime using net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services. ATMs will also remain operational.
