Indices off day's high; SENSEX up 100 pts, NIFTY hovers around 25,450; IIFL Finance surges 13%

Stock market today: After opening on a solid note, the benchmark indices retreated from their day's highs within 20 minutes on Friday, September 20.

At 9:41 AM, the S&P BSE SENSEX was trading 84 points, or 0.10% higher at 83,268.81 levels, while the NSE NIFTY was trading at 25,459.25, up 43.45 points, or 0.17%. 

Barring consumer durables, all sectoral indices were trading in the green. 

Realty stocks were the top sectoral gainers. The BSE REALTY index was trading 1.85% higher at 8,502.42 points. 

Buzzing Stocks

ITD Cementation zoomed 15%, as a report by The Economic Times said that the Adani Group has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to acquire the promoter’s 46.64% stake in ITD Cementation India to bolster its in-house civil engineering capabilities. At current market value, a successful deal would be pegged at ₹5,888.57 crore, the report added.

Broader Market

The BSE MidCap index was trading 0.10% higher at 48,648.57 levels, while the BSE SmallCap index was trading at 56,471.60 levels, up 0.28%. 

Top gainers and losers on the NSE

Metal stocks were buzzing in the trade. The top gainers on the NSE were JSW Steel, HDFC Life, Tata Steel, Hindalco and Coal India. On the other hand, the top losers were Cipla, NTPC, Titan Company, Tata Motors and Asian Paints.
