Stock market today: The domestic equity market was trading in positive territory in the early trade on Friday, December 27, amid healthy buying in auto, telecom, and consumer discretionary counters.

At 9:30 AM, the S&P BSE SENSEX was trading at 78,777.73 levels, up 305 points, or 0.39%, while the broader NIFTY50 index was trading at 23,858.95, up 109 points, or 0.46%.

Out of 50 components in the NIFTY50 index, 38 scrips were trading in the green, and the remaining 12 in the red.

The top five gainers of the index were Bajaj Auto, Trent Ltd, Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, and Hero MotoCorp.

The top losers were HCLTech, Adani Ports, TCS, Hindalco Industries, and L&T.

Buzzing Stocks

Shares of Gensol Engineering surged as much as 9.34% to ₹780 apiece on the BSE as the company on Thursday said it has secured a ₹897 crore contract from NTPC Renewable Energy for the development of 225 MW grid-connected solar projects.

The project is to be developed in EPC mode at GSECL Solar Park (Stage-III), Khavda, located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, the company said in a regulatory filing.

This contract entails the development of 225 MW-AC (alternate current), equivalent to 276 MW-DC (direct current), grid-connected solar projects.

Jubilant FoodWorks shares were trading over 2% higher at ₹720.20 apiece on the BSE as the company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (‘MoU’) with Coca-Cola India.

The MoU contains the principal terms and conditions for the purchase of a portfolio of sparkling beverage products and certain other products from The Coca-Cola Company authorised bottlers and for conducting marketing activities (which will be undertaken in the usual/ordinary course) for the said products as defined in the MoU. Broader Market

The BSE MidCap index was trading at 46,503.31, up 139 points, or 0.30%, while the BSE SmallCap index was quoting 80 points, or 0.15%, higher at 54,973.46.
