Gold prices retreated from record-high levels in major Indian cities in early trade on Monday, November 4, due to waning demand after the Diwali festival. Gold prices fell by ₹780 to trade below ₹81,000 per 10 grams while silver prices plunged by ₹3,200 per kg after hitting record high levels due to strong festive buying during the Diwali festivities.

Gold was trading in a range in global markets, which also weighed on local prices. Spot gold was trading marginally higher at $2,738 an ounce in Asian trade. The metal hit a high of $2,741 an ounce in overnight trade.

Silver prices plunged by ₹3,200 per kg in major Indian cities in early trade on Monday due to weak demand from coin makers and industrial units. Silver was trading at ₹96,900 per kg in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, down by ₹3,200 from the previous close.

Spot Silver traded higher by 0.44% at $32.56 an ounce in global markets. The metal hit a high of $32.67 in overnight trade.
