SUMMARY
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in a joint venture with Spain’s Lantania, has secured a contract from ACWA Power to build a 300,000 cubic meter per day desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.
This is the second desalination order that L&T has received in Saudi Arabia in the recent past and it strengthens the company's presence in the Middle East.
Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Thursday said it has signed a contract with ACWA Power, a developer in the Middle East, to construct a desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.
The water and effluent treatment business of L&T bagged the contract in a joint venture with Spain’s Lantania, the company said in a statement.
The plant will have a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day and will supply drinking water to the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions, benefiting around one million people.
The scope of the project includes the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, along with intake and outfall facilities, process units, pumping stations, potable water storage of 600,000 cubic meters, and an electrical special facility. A solar PV plant is also part of the project.
This is the second desalination order L&T has secured in Saudi Arabia in recent times, strengthening its presence in the Middle East, the company said.
L&T is a $27-billion Indian multinational engaged in EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing, and services operating across multiple geographies.
