Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Kaynes Semicon Private Limited's proposal to set up a semiconductor unit in Gujarat's Sanand.
The government had notified the Programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem in India in December 2021 with a total outlay of ₹76,000 crore.
He also announced that the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Kaynes Semicon Private Limited's proposal to set up a semiconductor unit in Gujarat's Sanand.
The proposed unit, which will have a capacity of 60 lakh chips per day, will be established with an investment of ₹3,300 crore.
"The plant will come up in 46 acres, it is a big plant and large portion of the production will go for Kaynes Industries, it has already been booked," the minister said.
The chips produced will be used in segments such as industrial, electric vehicles, automotive, consumer electronics, mobile phones, and telecom.

Construction of all four semiconductor units is progressing at a rapid pace and a robust semiconductor ecosystem is emerging near the units. These four units will bring an investment of almost ₹1.5 Lakh crore. The cumulative capacity of these units is about 7 crore chips per day.
