SUMMARY
Hyundai Motor will have a network of 50 fast public charging stations in India by the end of December 2024, the company said.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Monday announced plans to install nearly 600 public fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India over the next seven years. The company aims to have over 50 fast public charging stations operational by 2024 end.
As part of its green mobility push, HMIL has signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 EV charging stations in the state by 2027, with 10 of them becoming operational by the end of 2024. Currently, three stations in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai are functional, with seven more nearing completion.
“The EV market is expected to grow robustly by 2030. Studies conducted by HMIL have highlighted that customers are apprehensive about driving their EVs for long-distance commutes on highways due to a lack of charging infrastructure. Keeping this in mind, HMIL has taken the initiative of installing fast EV chargers on key highways, in addition to major cities,” Jae Wan Ryu, function head – corporate planning, HMIL, said in a statement.
“With access to HMC's global EV and battery technology, HMIL is well-positioned to build a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India. We are actively investing in infrastructure to support the expected growth in demand for electric vehicles,” he added.
So far, Hyundai’s charging network has facilitated nearly 50,000 sessions for over 10,000 customers, dispensing more than 7.30 lakh units of energy, according to the company.
Hyundai’s charging network covers major cities, including Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, and key highways such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, and Mumbai-Pune. Advanced chargers offering configurations up to DC 150 kW are installed at these locations. The company also provides access to over 10,000 EV charging points through its myHyundai app, developed in collaboration with partners like ChargeZone and Statiq.
Hyundai’s charging stations are open to all four-wheeler EVs, irrespective of brand. The company's charging stations are equipped with advanced chargers offering multiple configurations: DC 150 kW + DC 60 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 150 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 60 kW.
