    In August 2023, carriers had flown 1.24 crore domestic passengers while in July this year, the count stood at 1.29 crore.

    Technology giant Microsoft Corporation (India) has bought around 16 acres of land in Pune from Viva Highways for Rs 453 crore, according to property consultant Square Yards.

    In a statement on Friday, Square Yards said the recent land deal in Pune, registered in September 2024, involved the purchase of 66,450 square metres (approximately 16.4 acres) from Viva Highways Limited.

  8. Passenger vehicle wholesales dip 2% in August as OEMs cut dispatches

    Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales declined by about 2% year-on-year in August as companies curtailed dispatches to reduce inventory at dealers amid a drop in demand.

    According to data issued by the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the total passenger vehicle dispatches in the domestic market stood at 3.5 lakh units last month compared to 3.6 lakh vehicles in August 2023, a dip of 1.8%.

    Lignite-to-power producer NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) will invest around ₹50,000 crore to ramp up its renewable energy capacity from 1.43 GW to 10.11 GW.

    American automaker Ford on Friday said it is preparing to utilise its Chennai manufacturing plant to roll out vehicles for exports and has intimated the same to the Tamil Nadu government.

    The company which in 2021 had said that it would stop manufacturing vehicles in India, has submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the Tamil Nadu government, confirming its intention to utilise the Chennai plant for manufacturing for exports.

    The CBIC on Friday said it has suspended some CGST officials in Bengaluru who have been arrested by the city police for alleged extortion charges.

    On September 11, Bengaluru City Crime Branch arrested four Central GST officials based on a complaint of kidnapping and extortion filed by a businessman at Byappanahalli police station of Bengaluru East division.

    The arrested include a superintendent rank officer apart from inspector and senior intelligence officer rank staffers of the GST.

    Retail inflation in August inched up to 3.65%, though vegetables and pulses witnessed price rise in double digits, according to official data released on Thursday.

    The retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), however, remained below the Reserve Bank's median target of 4% for the second month in a row. It was at a five-year low of 3.6% in July. The headline inflation was 6.83% in August 2023. Read more.
