Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Monday free Intranet TV (BiTV) for mobile users, a national Wi-Fi roaming facility, and fibre-based Intranet TV (IFTV) services in Puducherry.

BiTV - intranet TV for mobile users

The state-owned telecom giant unveiled its BiTV service, offering over 300 live TV channels, including premium ones, to mobile users in Puducherry free of cost. Partnering with OTT aggregator OTTplay, the service provides unlimited entertainment, including movies, web series, and documentaries, in multiple languages.

BiTV is currently available in Puducherry as a pilot project and will expand to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand by January 2025, with a nationwide rollout planned soon the company said.

“With BiTV, through our partners, BSNL is giving every customer the power to access entertainment on the go, ‘anytime, anywhere’, free of cost, irrespective of the plan they are, making it a perfect alternative to the outdated PRBT systems,"Robert J Ravi, chairman and managing director, BSNL, said in a statement.

"BSNL will be one of the first telecom service provider to revolutionize its old PRBT by offering this groundbreaking service,” he added.

BSNL also extended its national Wi-Fi roaming facility to Manadipattu village, making it the second Wi-Fi-enabled village in India. The service, initially launched in October 2024, allows BSNL and non-BSNL users to connect to Wi-Fi hotspots.

BSNL FTTH customers can use their home data accounts across public Wi-Fi hotspots and other FTTH connections, while mobile users can integrate their plans with BSNL Wi-Fi networks for high-speed internet. Non-BSNL users can also access these hotspots via UPI-based payments.

“BSNL’s National Wi-Fi Roaming is a leap forward in bridging the rural-urban divide, empowering every Indian with affordable, high-speed internet access; across the country,” Ravi said.

IFTV - Fibre-based intranet TV service

BSNL introduced its Intranet Fibre-based TV (IFTV) service to Puducherry, offering over 500 live TV channels to its FTTH users at no additional cost. Customers can activate the service through a simple consent-based process.

"The IFTV launch redefines entertainment for BSNL’s FTTH customers, delivering unparalleled value and making every connection an experience to remember; in terms of entertainment; at no cost to its customers.," the CMD added.
