Electric vehicles were the talk of the town on the opening day of the second edition of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, with automobile industry leaders Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India revealing their plans to go big on the new energy vehicle segment.
Vehicles developed with eco-friendly technology dominated the show with Tata Motors, Skoda, JSW MG Motor and Kia India and luxury carmakers Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche showcasing their new offerings in EVs.
Maruti Suzuki India launched its first battery-operated electric vehicle, e VITARA. The automaker plans to export the EV to more than 100 countries. In the two-wheeler segment, Suzuki Motorcycle India unveiled its first electric scooter, e-Access.
Speaking at the unveiling of the model at the Auto Expo, held as part of the Bharat Mobility Show, Suzuki Motor Corporation representative Director and President Toshihiro Suzuki said the electric SUV would be exported to various regions, including Europe and Japan.
"We plan to begin production of the e VITARA in the coming few months at Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant. From here, we will export to more than 100 countries, including Europe and Japan," Suzuki said.
Suzuki Motor Corporation, which has a nearly 58% stake in Maruti Suzuki India, is aiming to make India a global production hub for the EV. Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said the company plans to become the leading producer of EVs in the country over the next year.
Hyundai Motor India launched Creta Electric with a price starting at ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The company also revealed its plans to set up 600 public fast charging stations across India over the next seven years to boost the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
"We are building a robust EV ecosystem to encourage wider EV adoption with plans to set up 600 public fast charging stations across India in the next 7 years, out of which, over 50 stations have already been set up across key cities and national highways," PTI quoted Hyundai Motor India MD Unsoo Kim as saying.
The leader in the electric passenger vehicles segment Tata Motors launched 18 new cars and SUVs, including the Harrier.ev. The company also announced its all-new Tata Sierra.
The company has already sold over 2 lakh EVs covering over 5 billion kilometres on Indian roads and cutting down 700,000 tonnes of CO2 emission, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Managing Director, Shailesh Chandra said.
Hero MotoCorp showcased its first flex-fuel motorcycle, the ethanol-based Hero HF Deluxe.
Greaves Cotton unveiled its concept of e-motorcycle, 'Xyber', and 'Xpress' for the quick commerce and delivery segment.
JSW MG Motor India expanded its new EV portfolio by launching MG Cyberster and MG M9. The models will be sold through its newly 'accessible luxury' channel MG Select.
Kia India launched the new Kia EV6.
Skoda Auto India also unveiled a lineup of eight ICE and EV models, including the entry-level global EV offering Elroq and a futuristic concept of electric mobility, Vision 7S.
Mercedes-Benz launched its luxury BEV, the EQS Maybach SUV 680 'Night Series' priced at ₹2.63 crore. The German luxury carmaker also unveiled the Maybach GLS 600 at ₹3.71 crore.
BMW India unveiled the all-electric BMW X1 long-wheelbase SUV, its first locally produced EV priced at ₹49 lakh.
Porsche, the German luxury sports carmaker, launched its brand-new electric SUV Macan and an updated Taycan sport saloon in the domestic market. The Macan BEV will come in three models with a price range of ₹1.22 crore to ₹1.69 crore. The updated Taycan will be available in two trims priced at ₹1.89 crore and ₹2.53 crore.
Many other EV developments, including EKA Mobility unveiling its electric truck a six-seater public vehicle, Vietnam’s VinFast revealing its plans to launch 2 premium electric vehicle SUVs later this year, Ashok Leyland unveiling its entry-level light commercial vehicle called Saathi, JBM launching its electric buses and Hyundai unveiling its concept three-wheeler EV and micro four-wheeler, among others, have everyone hooked to the expo. Several other attention-grabbing vehicles are expected to be showcased in the upcoming days.
