The Economic Survey encapsulates the performance of various sectors of the economy in the gone-by fiscal year, and provides an outlook for the future. The document focuses on India’s fiscal policy trajectory, and also examines the evolution of banking and capital markets.
A significant portion of it summarises the performance of India's manufacturing and services sectors, and talks about the balance of trade. Global macro trends, including significant international political and economic developments, also find a mention in the survey.
Sitharaman is expected to present the survey in the Lok Sabha at 1 pm, and in the Rajya Sabha at 2 pm, reports said. While the document will be tabled by her before the House, she is unlikely to read out its details before the lawmakers.
The key highlights of the survey will be presented before the press by Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran, who prepared the document along with his team at the Department of Economic Affairs.
The press conference will be streamed live at 2:30 pm from New Delhi. The same could be watched on the Youtube channel of public broadcaster DD News.
The Union Budget for fiscal year 2024-25 will be presented before the Parliament on Tuesday, July 23. This will be the seventh consecutive budget to be presented by Sitharaman, who has been the country's finance minister since 2019. This will also be the first budget under the third tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
