83% of Indians are optimistic about the current economic climate of the country, and 70% believe the country is heading in the right direction, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos. Globally, the optimism is not very high with only 37% being of the opinion that their country is headed down the correct path.

Singapore takes the title of the most optimistic market, with 86% of its urban citizens being of the opinion that their country is moving in the right direction, revealed the survey conducted in July 2024.
Indonesia was third on the list, trailing India closely with 69% of its citizens being confident about the country’s direction.
Globally, only 38% of people across 29 countries think their respective nation is on the right track, with over 62% believing that their country is headed in the wrong direction, the report stated.
Indians are the most optimistic about the current economic climate in the country, with 83% believing that the economy is going strong. In comparison, only 37% of people globally are satisfied with the prevailing economic climate in their country.
The study revealed that with the 2024 Paris Olympics beginning, about 8 out of 10 French people have been feeling that their country is on the wrong track, with only 20% having a positive outlook.
The survey, titled “What Worries the World”, revealed that a third of the world, i.e., 33%, believe that inflation is one of the three biggest problems affecting their country.
“Inflation has been the number one global concern overall in our What Worries the World survey for over two years,” the survey said.
Besides inflation, crime and violence at 30%, and poverty and inequality at 29% have been the other two major causes of concern globally.
About 39% of Indians have been worried about unemployment, as per the survey.The unemployment rate was 9.2% as of June 2024, according to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). However, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Parliament earlier this week that “the current unemployment rate is 3.2%”, and will drop below 3% in the future.
According to the Ipsos survey, 22% of Indians were also worried about financial and political corruption, 21% about poverty and inequality, 13% had concerns related to climate change, 12% were concerned about terrorism, and around 8% had worries related to COVID-19.
Notably, the Ipsos’ What Worries the World survey tracks public opinion and presents the top concerns of citizens globally.
