Top gainers and losers, Oct 6: Trent rallies 13%, BSE, Kotak Bank shares jump 4%, Coal India falls 3%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in positive territory for the second consecutive session on Tuesday, October 6, amid buying in capital market, chemicals and defence stocks.

Furthermore, investor sentiment also improved as global crude oil prices fell, with Brent crude oil futures for delivery in December declining as much as 2.4% to an intraday low of $97.91 per barrel (bbl).

On October 6, both the benchmark indices closed at their intraday highs, with the SENSEX ending higher by 685.34 points or 0.95% at 73,067.81. Meanwhile, the 50-share NIFTY50 gained by 220.35 points or 0.98% to close at 22,776.10.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

The 50-share NIFTY index was bolstered by gains in the shares of Trent, which closed 12.64% higher, after the Tata Group retailer reported a strong business update for the September quarter of the 2026-27 financial year (Q2 FY27).

In its provisional business update shared on Monday, the company said its standalone revenue from operations, excluding GST, rose 23% year-on-year (YoY to ₹5,788 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹4,724 crore a year ago. Revenue from merchandise sales, excluding other operating income, also grew 23% during the quarter.

It was followed by BSE (3.94%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (3.82%), Nestle India (3.42%) and Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) (3.09%), which were among the other top gainers.

Kotak Mahindra Bank stock rose as the company, in its business update, showed that its net advances surged 24.7% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹5,77,094 crore, in comparison to ₹4,62,688 crore in the same period a year earlier.

The private bank’s CASA (current account savings account) deposits surged 11.3% YoY as of the period under review to ₹2,49,105 crore, from ₹2,23,791 crore in the same period a year earlier.

On the other hand, the top losers included Coal India (-3.16%), Tech Mahindra (-2.04%), Max Healthcare Institute (-1.58%), Tata Motors PV (-0.99%) and UltraTech Cement (-0.92%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s midcap gauge, the NIFTY Midcap 100, advanced 1.08% or 637.55 points to close at 59,761.20 on Tuesday.

The top winners included Motilal Oswal Financial Services (6.93%), Tube Investments of India (6.58%), PB Fintech (6.01%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) (5.36%) and Meesho (5.08%).

Meesho shares gained on October 6, after the e-commerce firm’s net merchandise value (NMV) through its content commerce ecosystem grew 152% year-on-year.

This was supported by over 1.6 lakh active creators over the last 12 months across India. The company, in a regulatory filing, said the growth reflects a broader shift in how consumers across Bharat are shopping online.

Around 90% of Meesho’s active content commerce creators are nano (creators with fewer than 10,000 followers), and 81% of creators are from non-metro India.

On the flip side, Phoenix Mills (-2.66%), Federal Bank (-2.25%), KEI Industries (-1.74%), Kalyan Jewellers India (-1.56%), and Lenskart Solutions (-1.12%) were among the top laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 ended at 19,448.70, reflecting a 299.60-point or 1.56% increase.

The top gainers included Urban Company (8.47%), PG Electroplast (8.19%), Welspun Corp (6.92%), Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation (6.65%), and Wockhardt (5.35%).

On the contrary, Bandhan Bank (-3.11%), Ola Electric Mobility (-1.85%), Great Eastern Shipping Company (-1.64%), Redington (-1.57%), and City Union Bank (CUB) (-1.52%) were among the top losers.
