The rally comes amid a combination of company-specific developments, improving earnings expectations and a broader recovery in Indian equities.

Here are eight possible factors that could be supporting the stock today.

Jio IPO buzz

The proposed IPO of Reliance Industries’ telecom and digital arm, Jio Platforms, is a key catalyst for RIL shares.

The listing could provide an independent market valuation for Jio, giving investors greater clarity on the value of RIL’s stake in the business.

If Jio commands a strong valuation, investors may see RIL’s current market value as not fully reflecting the value of its underlying businesses, potentially narrowing the valuation discount and supporting the RIL stock.

2. Strong refining margins

Improving refining margins are a major positive for RIL, as they can support profitability in its Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) business. While crude prices remain elevated, the key factor for refiners is the spread between crude costs and the prices of refined products. Sustained or wider refining cracks can therefore support RIL’s O2C earnings even in a high-crude-price environment.

In simple words, for RIL, high crude is not necessarily the problem or the benefit — the crucial question is whether refined-product prices rise faster than crude, keeping refining margins strong.

3. Q2 earnings optimism

With the company’s September-quarter results approaching, investors are increasingly focusing on the possibility of stronger earnings. Expectations of improved refining profitability, continued growth in Jio and a recovery in other businesses are supporting sentiment.

Better-than-expected earnings could also provide a fresh trigger for the stock after its recent weakness.

4. Jio’s improving business outlook

Jio remains an important part of the RIL investment story. Growth in subscribers and average revenue per user (ARPU) can support the telecom business’s revenue and profitability.

Expectations of continued growth in Jio’s earnings are therefore another factor supporting RIL shares.

Reliance Jio gained the highest number of wireless mobile subscribers in August 2026, adding nearly 2.40 million users, followed by Bharti Airtel with about 2.11 million additions, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Jio's wireless mobile subscriber base rose to 508.43 million at the end of August from 506.03 million at the end of July, translating into a net addition of 2.40 million subscribers. Airtel added 2.11 million users, with the monthly gains pushing its subscriber base to about 491.60 million from 489.49 million.

5. Recovery from recent lows

RIL shares had come under pressure in recent months and touched a 52-week low earlier this month. The stock has since recovered, prompting some investors to look for opportunities at lower valuations.

The rebound could also attract short covering and fresh buying as the stock moves away from its recent lows.

Data show that the RIL stock has fallen around 23% so far in 2026 (year-to-date).

6. Broader market recovery

The rally in RIL is also taking place against the backdrop of a broader recovery in Indian equities. After a prolonged period of weakness, domestic benchmarks have recently shown signs of stabilising.

As one of India’s largest companies, RIL tends to benefit when investors increase exposure to large-cap stocks during a broader market recovery.

7. Lower crude prices and improving macro sentiment

A moderation in crude oil prices is positive for the broader Indian market because India is a major importer of crude. Lower oil prices can ease pressure on inflation, the trade deficit, and corporate costs.

For RIL, the impact of crude prices is more nuanced because its refining and petrochemicals businesses are influenced by refining margins and product spreads. However, softer crude prices can still improve overall investor sentiment towards Indian equities.

8. Relief for Campa Cola business

According to a Reuters report, Reliance Industries also received a favourable development for its consumer business after the Delhi High Court granted temporary relief over the use of the “energy drink” label for certain Campa beverages.

While this is unlikely to be the main reason behind RIL’s 2.75% rally, the development removes a near-term regulatory overhang for Reliance Consumer Products and is a positive for the company’s growing FMCG business.
