Top gainers and losers, Aug 31: Adani Ent falls 10%, Adani Ports declines 7%, Sun Pharma rises 3%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Monday, August 31, amid a sell-off in media and metal stocks and a surge in crude oil prices as Iran and the United States traded attacks for the first time in more than a month, raising fears of a renewed conflict after weeks of relative military calm.

Furthermore, investor sentiment was also impacted by foreign investment outflows, MSCI’s recent rebalancing move, and weak global cues.

On Friday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth ₹5,039.80 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth ₹5,183.93 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.

The SENSEX declined as much as 0.66% to hit an intraday low of 76,751.32. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 tumbled as much as 0.75% to touch the session’s low of 23,993.60.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Adani Enterprises (-9.76%), Adani Ports & SEZ (-6.70%), ITC Ltd (-3.95%), Bharti Airtel (-3.75%), and Tata Motors PV (-3.30%) were among the top losers.

Shares of Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports declined amid a decline in the broader market and heightened volatility ahead of the MSCI index reshuffle. According to a Reuters report, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports are likely to receive inflows of about $202 million and $77 million, respectively. Adani Energy Solutions is also expected to see inflows of around $310 million. READ MORE.

On the other hand, the top gainers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.38%), Nestle India (2.88%), Axis Bank (2.77%), Max Healthcare Institute (2.76%) and Grasim Industries (2.46%).

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE’s NIFTY midcap gauge, the Midcap 100, ended 0.24% or 155.25 points higher at 64,224.75 on August 31.

The index was supported by Aurobindo Pharma, which closed 4.36% higher, as the wholly owned subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc., Lannett Company LLC, launched the generic equivalent of Advair Diskus (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol inhalation powder), a product of GSK plc, in 100/50 mcg and 250/50 mcg strengths, in the US market.

It was followed by Lenskart Solutions (4.22%), FSN E-Commerce Ventures (4.14%), One 97 Communications (4.01%) and Polycab India (3.93%), which were among the other top winners.

On the flip side, Persistent Systems (-4.77%), GMR Airports (-4.76%), KPIT Technologies (-4%), BSE (-3.61%) and National Aluminium Company (-3.41%) were among the top laggards.

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 closed at 19,931.65, down by 148.35 points or 0.74%.

The top losers were Kaynes Technology India (-6.55%), Wockhardt (-4.66%), Jyoti CNC Automation (-4.18%), Nuvama Wealth Management (-3.26%) and Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals (-3.21%).

On the contrary, the top gainers included Ather Energy (6.27%), Ola Electric Mobility (4.93%), City Union Bank (3.27%), Computer Age Management Services (2.62%), and Brigade Enterprises (2.51%).

Shares of Ather Energy hit a 52-week high on Monday, August 31, as investors reacted to a series of launches including the Bedrock battery pack, the mass-market e-scooter Konarc, higher range options for existing product lines, and several new features. READ MORE.

On Saturday, August 29, Ather launched its new EV scooter named Konarc at a price of ₹99,999 ex-showroom in Bengaluru, in an effort to target a larger audience base and attract more customers amid elevated competition in the market.

The company has launched the vehicle in three variants, namely, S100, S125 and S160, with plans to deliver the S125 and S160 variants starting from mid-September 2026.
