According to a Reuters report, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports are likely to receive inflows of about $202 million and $77 million, respectively. Adani Energy Solutions is also expected to see inflows of around $310 million.

Lenskart Solutions, Laurus Labs, Adani Energy Solutions, and Billionbrains Garage Ventures (Groww) are four companies that will be added to the MSCI Global Standard Index after the market closing hours on August 31, 2026.

MSCI’s additions and exclusions are expected to trigger major buying cues in the market, as exchange-traded funds and passive funds tracking the index will change their allocations to replicate the benchmark, resulting in fund inflows and outflows from the listed companies.

MSCI also increased the weightages of stocks including Eternal, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports & SEZ, JSW Energy, Adani Power, Swiggy and GMR Airports following its August 2026 review.

On the other hand, the index provider reduced weightages for Reliance Industries, Jio Financial Services, Indian Hotels, Aditya Birla Capital and Colgate-Palmolive India.

A change in weightage of the stocks listed under the existing MSCI index will also trigger inflows and outflows as the funds balance mirrors the changes in their portfolio.

Adani stock price trends on Monday

On Monday, Adani Group stocks were trading with steep cuts in trade.

Adani Enterprises shares were down 6.5% to an intraday low of ₹2,960 apiece on the NSE, while Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone slipped 3% to an intraday low of ₹1,656. Adani Power was also down 3% at ₹206.40. Adani Green Energy shares were trading over 3% lower at ₹1,267.80 apiece on the NSE.

Adani Energy Solutions was trading at ₹1,521.10, down 5% on the NSE, while Adani Total Gas shares fell 2.5% to today’s low of ₹620.15 on the NSE.

Ambuja Cements and ACC shares were also down 2% and 1.5%, respectively.

Previous developments

This year in May, Bernstein had said concerns following the 2023 short-seller episode and subsequent US regulatory developments now appear largely behind the group.

In a report covering four listed Adani companies—Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Adani Green Energy, Adani Power and Ambuja Cements—Bernstein said many global funds had stayed away from the group pending clarity on US-related developments, leaving several stocks under-owned despite strong operational execution.

The report said the settlement of the US SEC case and moves by US prosecutors to drop charges against the group had removed a major overhang on Adani stocks, many of which still trade below pre-crisis levels despite a sharp recovery from earlier declines.

“The group has gone through two big events in the last 4 years—the short seller event in January 2023 and US SEC-DOJ-related developments starting in November 2024. With the latest news from the US, both seem to be behind,” the report said.

The group is highly debated—many funds stayed away till clarity on the US developments came, and most stocks are still underowned. “What was never debated, though, is their execution prowess (except in cement) and how important they are to build infra in India.”

To Sum Up

Today's decline appears to be driven more by broad market risk-off sentiment and pre-MSCI-rebalance volatility than by a fresh negative development specific to the Adani Group.

In fact, the MSCI changes are expected to bring inflows into several Adani stocks, which could result in sizeable buying towards the end of Monday's session.
