NTPC Green Energy stock rises over 2% after 500 MW power tender win; here's what investors should know

NTPC Green Energy shares surged more than 2% during the morning market hours on Monday, August 24, after the firm secured a power tender order of 500 megawatts (MW) in the latest e-reverse auction.

Shares of NTPC Green Energy gained 2.6% to touch their intraday high of ₹93.85 apiece on Monday's market, in comparison to ₹91.43 apiece at the previous equity market close, according to NSE data.

After the intraday high, the company shares retracted some of its gains trading 1% higher at ₹92.36 apiece during the trading session on August 24.

As per the exchange filing data, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy, emerged as one of the successful bidders in the e-reverse auction conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

The tender order was for the selection of RE Power Developers for Assured Peak Supply of 6,000 megawatt-hours (MWh).

Out of this total 6,000 MWh power supply deal, NTPC Renewable Energy will supply 500 MW of contracted power capacity at a tariff rate of ₹6 per kilowatt-hour (KWh).

“Under the terms of the Request for Selection (RfS), NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has secured 500 MW contracted capacity at a discovered tariff of ₹6.00/kWh in the aforesaid tender,” the company informed the stock exchanges.

The e-reverse auction for the power supply tender was concluded on Friday, August 21, 2026.

NSE data showed that NTPC Green Energy shares ended 0.49% lower at ₹91.43 apiece after the trading session on Friday, August 21, compared to ₹91.88 apiece at the previous equity market close.

West Bengal order wins

Earlier in August, NTPC Green Energy won an e-reverse auction conducted by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, according to an NSE filing.

As per the order details, NTPC Green Energy secured the order to develop a standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the state of West Bengal, which is estimated to have a capacity of 500 MW or 2,000 MWh.

“Under the terms of the Request for Selection (RfS), NGEL has secured 200 MW/800 MWh of BESS capacity at a discovered tariff of ₹4.35 lakh per MW per month in the aforesaid tender,” as per the exchange filing.

NTPC Green Energy share performance

NTPC Green Energy shares have lost more than 11% of their value in the last one-year period and have declined 3.9% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis in 2026, according to NSE data.

The exchange data also showed that the renewable energy company’s stock has lost 1.1% in the past-month period, and was trading 0.5% lower in the last five market sessions.

Shares of NTPC Green Energy surged to their 52-week high of ₹119.95 apiece on April 27, 2026, while the 52-week low was at ₹84 apiece on March 2, 2026.

The company’s market capitalisation (m-cap) was at ₹77,058 crore as of the stock market close on Friday, August 21, 2026.
