SUMMARY
Q2 preview: Hospital and healthcare companies are set to post a strong performance in the upcoming earnings report as experts pin estimates for a volume-led growth supported by healthy demand in the sector.

Nifty Healthcare has gained nearly 7% YTD significantly outperforming the broader NIFTY50 index, which lost 13.4% in the same period.
Healthcare and hospital stocks are expected to witness strong performance in the upcoming Q2 earnings for the financial year 2026-27, as equity market investors focus on the potential for volume growth, capacity additions, and overall expansion of business amid healthy demand in the sector.
Companies like Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, Fortis Healthcare, Dr Lal Path Labs, among several others, are likely to remain in focus due to the overall defensive sector demand and potential for healthy earnings at a time of weak global cues in the broader market.
Data showed that the sectoral benchmark Nifty Healthcare has gained nearly 7% year-to-date (YTD) as of the stock market close on October 14, significantly outperforming the broader NIFTY50 index, which lost 13.4% in the same period.
Experts predict that the Indian healthcare and hospital stocks are set to witness volume-led growth in the September quarter earnings, while margins are estimated to remain under pressure in the near term due to additions until occupancy increases to aid profitability.
“The key differentiator will be how effectively companies manage these pressures while investing in capabilities that support sustainable growth,” said Aparna Shanker, CIO- Equity at The Wealth Company Mutual Fund.
Aparna Shanker predicts that July to September quarter FY27 earnings growth will be resilient for the sector with the help of expanding businesses, improving occupancy, and capacity addition, with company-specific growth in focus rather than a broader rally.
“In healthcare, capacity additions, improving occupancy and the ramp-up of newly commissioned beds could support earnings growth,” said the expert.
The capital markets expert also said that the medium to longer term outlook for the Indian healthcare sector remains constructive, with companies focusing on expansion and growth amid varied quarterly performances.
In line with the estimates, institutional brokerage firm Antique Broking analysts also predict that the Q2 earnings for healthcare and hospital companies are set to be powered by healthy patient volumes and improving occupancy rates, which will in turn power revenue growth.
In the case of hospital stocks, analysts said that Q2 is a seasonally strong quarter due to the monsoon-related admissions, indicating a potential for healthy growth in the upcoming earnings reports.
For diagnostic or other healthcare companies, Antique analysts predict network expansion, higher patient footfalls and continued traction in preventive wellness offerings are key factors expected to support the testing volumes.
Latest signs in the sector show that the rising demand for specialised treatment improves the overall outlook for the sector, as the need for the same is beneficial for all related sectors like pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and hospitals.
“The Indian pharma market delivered a strong performance in September 2026, with chronic therapies remaining the key growth driver,” said Antique analysts.
The experts also added that the elevated demand in other key therapies like cardiac and anti-diabetic added to the overall growth for the healthcare sector.
Aparna Shanker also agreed with the demand growth narrative, with a key focus on specialised treatment, capacity expansion and improving operational efficiencies.
“The healthcare segment is also benefiting from rising demand for specialised treatment, capacity expansion and improving operational efficiencies. These factors create multiple growth engines across pharmaceuticals, hospitals and allied healthcare services,” said Shanker.
Healthcare and hospital company margins will initially remain under pressure due to the new capacity addition, but as soon as the occupancy and patient volumes improve, the condition is expected to stabilise.
“Competitive intensity in newer therapies and the capital required to build advanced manufacturing capabilities are additional factors to watch,” said Aparna Shanker.
Despite the near-term challenge, investors need to track revenue growth, monitor occupancy levels, average revenue per occupied bed, the ramp-up of new facilities, operating margins and capital efficiency for these healthcare companies in the upcoming earnings.
Latest updates like the Department of Pharmaceuticals announcing the central government’s decision to cap trade margins for non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs at 30% of the maximum retail price will impact the overall sector.
However, Jefferies predict that this will only impact near-term margins but this will be transitory and the EBITDA impact will be manageable.
