Dhanteras 2026 falls on Friday, November 6, and is considered one of the most auspicious occasions for buying gold, silver and other precious metals in India.

Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, marks the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. The word ‘Dhan’ means wealth, while ‘Teras’ refers to the 13th day of the Hindu lunar calendar.

The festival holds special significance in Indian households, where purchasing gold, silver, jewellery, utensils or other valuables is traditionally believed to bring prosperity, good fortune, and financial well-being.

Many families worship Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Dhanvantari, associated with health and Ayurveda, on this day.

For the jewellery industry, Dhanteras is among the most important occasions of the year, with consumers traditionally stepping up purchases of gold and silver jewellery, coins and other precious metal products.

While jewellery buying is deeply rooted in tradition, consumer preferences have evolved over the years, with lightweight designs, smaller-ticket purchases and exchange of old gold gaining traction amid elevated precious metal prices.

The festive demand outlook is therefore closely watched by investors as they assess its potential impact on the sales and performance of listed jewellery companies.

Here is how leading jewellery stocks were performing in the morning trade on Nov 4
Shares of Titan Company, the Tata Group's crown jewel, were trading over 1% at ₹4,612.40 on the NSE, while Kalyan Jewellers India was up 0.42% at ₹510.35. PC Jeweller traded nearky 3% higher at ₹15.12, and Senco Gold was trading 1.42% higher at ₹304.60. P N Gadgil Jewellers was trading at ₹580, up 0.77%.

Thangamayil Jewellery was also trading 1.03% higher at ₹4,579.40 on the NSE.

What jewellery companies said

Leading jewellery companies reported strong business updates for the September quarter, with management commentary pointing to a healthy demand outlook. Companies indicated that the festive season, followed by the upcoming wedding season, is expected to drive sales momentum and support growth in the coming quarters.

With Dhanteras and Diwali marking a key period for gold and jewellery purchases, investors will be watching closely for signs of sustained consumer demand.

Management commentary has remained encouraging, with expectations of a strong festive and wedding season providing a potential tailwind for jewellery retailers.
