Shares of Reliance recorded its sharpest single-day fall in the last one month, closing below the level of ₹3,000. The broader market outperformed, with the Nifty Smallcap index closing at a record high.

NIFTY50 and SENSEX extended its fall dragged down by Reliance, broader market outperform
After opening higher, Indian benchmark indices scummed to selling pressure at upper levels and ended the session in red. The NIFTY50 extended its fall for a second consecutive day to end at 25,145.10, down by 0.21%. The SENSEX registered a fall for a third consecutive day to close near the 82,201.16 level. On the other hand, the Nifty Bank outperformed the frontline indices, ending higher by 72.80 points. The broader indices, too, exhibited outperformance, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 index climbing over 1%, ending the session with a fresh record high.
Reliance Industries board approved the 1:1 bonus issue. However, the stock declined over 1% to close below its important psychological level of ₹3,000.
Coming to the NIFTY50 index pullers and draggers, Titan (+10.57 pts), ITC (+10.21 pts), Infosys (+8.59 pts), HDFC Bank (+4.42 pts), and TCS (+2.46 pts) were the pullers of the day. Draggers included Reliance Industries (-29.06 pts), Bharti Airtel (-10.16 pts), L&T (-6.8 pts), M&M (-6.26 pts), and Tata Motors (-5.56 pts).
On Thursday, most of the sectoral indices closed the day on a positive note. The top three gainers were Nifty Media (+0.81%), Nifty Consumer Durables (+0.66%), and Nifty IT (+0.46%). The top three losers were Nifty Realty (-0.97%), Nifty Auto (-0.38%) and Nifty Oil & Gas (-0.38%).
The key Asian indices closed on a negative note, barring the Shanghai index, which gained by +0.14%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped -1.07%, the Kospi fell by -0.21%, and the Hang Seng index closed flat by -0.07%.
As of 3:41 PM, The Dow Jones futures were trading up by +33 points at 41,084.
