Vedanta Group stocks like the flagship company Vedanta Ltd, subsidiary Hindustan Zinc, along with demerged entities such as Vedanta Iron & Steel and Vedanta Oil & Gas shares were trading higher on Monday, August 17, amid higher metal prices in the global market and the company’s latest order win in Andhra Pradesh.
NSE data showed that Vedanta Iron & Steel shares surged 5% to hit their upper price band of ₹38.71 apiece on Monday’s market, in comparison to ₹36.87 apiece at the previous equity market close.
Vedanta Group’s latest successful order win of the Punnam Manganese Block in the State of Andhra Pradesh is a beneficial move for its latest demerged entity, Vedanta Iron & Steel, as the key mineral manganese is a hard metal used to make steel stronger.
“We wish to inform you that the company has been declared as successful bidder in respect of Punnam Manganese Block in the State of Andhra Pradesh after fulfilling required statutory compliances via letter dated August 13, 2026,” Vedanta Ltd informed the exchanges on Friday last week.
As per the order book update, the Punnam Manganese Block spans across 152 hectares and is currently at the G4 stage of exploration. The company management expects the acquisition of the manganese block to strengthen the Group’s diversified metals and mining portfolio.

On Monday, investors were trading against the backdrop of higher metal prices in the global commodity market amid supply and inventory concerns, while demand remained heightened in the market.
Higher commodity metal prices in the market are beneficial for metal mining and production companies, which enjoy their margin benefit directly due to sales at elevated prices in the market.
At those higher prices, companies are able to sell their produced minerals at an elevated rate, which in turn aids overall revenue growth in a particular period under review.
Investing data showed that copper, aluminium, steel, and iron prices were trading higher on Monday’s market.
Latest NSE filing also showed that Vedanta Iron & Gas’ subsidiary ESL Steel Limited (ESL) received a ₹39.58 crore goods and services tax (GST) notice from the Office of the Principal Commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax and Central Excise, Ranchi.
The data further showed that the total tax liability of ₹39,58,32,544 comprises of an IGST of ₹29.16 crore, CGST of ₹3.26 crore, SGST of ₹3.26 crore, and Cess of ₹3.88 crore for an alleged short reversal of Input Tax Credit.
“ESL is in the process of examining the said intimation and shall take appropriate steps in accordance with applicable laws within the prescribed timelines,” as per the exchange filing.
The company also said that this will have no material impact on the financial and operational performance of the firm.
