Top gainers, losers today on October 15: BPCL, ICICI Bank lead NIFTY50 movers; HDFC Life falls over 3.5%

SUMMARY

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) shares gained the most among NIFTY50 constituents, settling at ₹349.35 apiece, up by 2.5%. ICICI Bank, Britannia Industries and Bharti Airtel emerged as the other major gainers among NIFTY constituents. On the other hand, HDFC Life Insurance Company and Wipro were the top drags among NIFTY stocks.

Benchmark indices SENSEX and NIFTY closed in the red on Tuesday, October 15, amid the losses in oil and gas, automobile, and metal stocks.

NIFTY50 closed at 25,057, down by 70.6 points, or 0.28%. The key index oscillated between an intraday low of 25,008 and a high of 25,212 earlier in the session.

On the other hand, BSE SENSEX settled at 152 points, or 0.19%, lower at 81,820. The 30-share index touched an intraday low of 81,635 and a high of 82,300 levels.

Among sectoral indices, NIFTY Realty and NIFTY Media closed higher at 2.05% and 0.62%, respectively. On the other hand, the NIFTY Metals and NIFTY Auto closed lower by 1.44% and 0.83%, respectively.

Out of the 50 NIFTY constituents, 30 closed in the red, dragged down by HDFC Life Insurance Company, Wipro, and Bajaj Auto shares.

BPCL and ICICI Bank emerge as top NIFTY gainers

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) shares gained the most among NIFTY constituents. The state owned company’s shares closed at ₹349.35 apiece, up by 2.52%. The stock gained over 3% to hit an intraday high at ₹351.5 apiece.
Shares of private sector lender, ICICI Bank gained over 2% to hit an intraday-high of ₹1,258.3 apiece on the NSE. The stock closed higher by 1.97% at ₹1,256 apiece.
Telecom major Bharti Airtel shares gained over 2% to hit an intraday high of ₹1732.75 apiece. The stock closed 1.32% higher at ₹1,718 apiece on the NSE.
FMCG major Britannia Industries shares traded higher by more than 1% to hit an intraday high of ₹6,082.95 apiece. The stock settled with gains of 1.22% at ₹6,051.05 apiece on the NSE.
Shares of Asian Paints gained nearly 2% to trade at an intraday high of ₹3096.8 apiece before closing at ₹3,075 apiece, up by 1.18%.

Among other NIFTY constituents, UltraTech Cement, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Adani Ports closed higher by up to 1.1% on October 15.

HDFC Life Insurance Company and Wipro emerge as top losers

HDFC Life Insurance Company declined the most among NIFTY constituents. The stock dropped nearly 4% to hit a low of ₹711.3 apiece in intraday trade. The insurance stock closed at ₹714.05 apiece, down by 3.58%.
Shares of IT services major Wipro dropped more than 3% to hit an intraday low of ₹530.85 per share. The stock closed lower by 3.07% at ₹532.7 apiece.
Shares of Bajaj Auto closed lower by 3.04% at ₹11,537.9 apiece, while shares of Bajaj Finance settled at ₹7,029.8 apiece down by 2.48%. Hindalco Industries shares closed 2.19% lower at ₹726.75 apiece.

Reliance Industries, Cipla and Tata Steel also emerged as losers among other NIFTY constituents, declining up to 2.06%.
