Top gainers and losers on August 17: HCL Tech, Infosys, Sun Pharma down 3%; Hindalco up 2% were among top movers

The NIFTY50 index ended 0.32% or 78 points lower at 24,287.65 points after the trading session on Monday, in comparison to 24,366 points at the previous equity market close, according to NSE data.

The BSE SENSEX index closed 0.26% or 281 points lower at 77,728.16 points after the trading session on August 17, compared to 78,009.25 points at the previous stock market session.

Although asian markets were trading higher amid buying interest in technology stocks, the momentum was somewhat impacted as investors awaited clarity related to the trade flow via the Strait of Hormuz and the potential peace deal in West Asia.

Indices like metal, realty and select private banks witnessed buying interest during the trading session on August 17.

Stocks like HCL Tech, Infosys, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Nestle India, ITC, Tech Mahindra and Tata Motors PV were among the top gainers on the NIFTY50 index as of the stock market close on Monday.

HCL Tech lost 2.6%, Infosys lost 2.5%, Sun Pharma lost 2.5%, TCS lost 1%, Nestle India lost 2%, ITC lost 1.8%, Tech Mahindra lost 1.4%, and Tata Motors PV lost 1.3% as of the trading session close on August 17.

Other stocks like Hindalco, Tata Steel, HDFC Life Insurance, ONGC, Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, JSW Steel, Ultratech Cement, and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers on Monday.

Hindalco gained 2%, Tata Steel gained 1.3%, HDFC Life gained 1.3%, ONGC gained 0.8%, Axis Bank gained 0.8%, Larsen & Toubro gained 0.7%, JSW Steel gained 0.6%, Ultratech Cement gained 0.5%, and Reliance gained 0.4% on August 17.

Out of the total 50 stocks listed under the benchmark NIFTY50 index, only 18 stocks ended in the green zone, 31 stocks ended in the negative territory, while Shriram Finance shares ended in the unchanged zone, as per NSE data.
