Top gainers and losers today: The benchmark NIFTY50 and BSE SENSEX ended in the red for a second straight session on Friday, May 8, as investors remained cautious due to the weak global cues over the escalations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The focus of the stock market investors remained on the corporate earnings on Friday, where the State Bank of India failed to improve the sentiment of investors with a subdued earnings release.

The NIFTY50 benchmark index closed 0.62% lower at 24,176.15 points after Friday’s trading session, compared to 24,326 points at the previous market close, according to NSE data.

The BSE SENSEX index closed 0.66% lower at 77,328.19 points after the trading session on May 8, compared to 77,844.52 points at the previous market close, as per the exchange data.

Out of the 50 constituents in the benchmark NIFTY50 index, 20 stocks ended with gains, while 30 closed in the red after Friday’s trading session.

NIFTY50 top gainers & losers

Stocks like Titan, Apollo Hospitals, Asian Paints, Tata Consumer Products, Adani Ports, and Infosys were the top gainers among others after Friday’s trading session.

Titan closed 4.8% higher, Apollo Hospitals was up 3.4%, Asian Paints was up 2.7%, Tata Consumer Products was up 2.16%, Adani Ports & SEZ was up 1.5%, and Infosys closed 1.4% higher on May 8.

Other stocks such as State Bank of India, Coal India, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, and Axis Bank were among the top losers on Friday’s market.

State Bank of India shares closed 6.7% lower, Coal India dropped 2%, HDFC Bank lost 1.8%, Bajaj Finance ropped 1.8%, and Axis Bank closed 1.7% lower after Friday’s trading session.

Midcap & Smallcap stocks

The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.15% lower at 61,910.90 points on Friday, compared to 62,003.15 points at the previous market close, according to NSE data.

Stocks like Coforge were up 6.2%, Dabur was up 3.6%, Godfrey Phillips India up 3.5%, Kalyan Jewellers up 3.3%, and Mahindra & Mahindra Financial up 2.6% were among the top gainers.

While others like Lupin were down 3.5%, Bluestar was down 3.2%, Voltas was down 3%, GVT&D was down 2.9%, and Power India was down 2.5% on Friday.

The Nifty Smallcap 100 index closed 0.22% higher at 18,737 points on Friday, May 8, compared to 18,695 points at the previous market session, according to the NSE data.

Stocks like FSL were up 15.8%, Nuvama Wealth Management was up 10%, MRPL was up 8%, Dr Lal Path Labs was up 5.7%, and Piramal Finance up 5.3%, were among the top gainers on the smallcap index.

Others like Aditya Birla Real Estate down 7%, Urban Company lost 6%, City Union Bank lost 4.3%, Godawari Power and Ispat down 3%, and Data Patterns India down 3%, were among the top losers on Friday’s market.
