SUMMARY

New India Assurance shares advanced as much as 9.35% to an intraday high of ₹201 as initial public offering of NSE went live today. It owns 1.42% stake in the NSE and is offloading 1.05 crore shares in the ongoing IPO.

The Indian equity benchmarks were trading firmly higher in noon deals on Thursday, September 17, ahead of weekly expiry of SENSEX futures and option contracts.

The SENSEX rose as much as 341 points and NIFTY50 index touched an intraday high of 23,363 powered by gains in index heavyweights like Larsen & Toubro, Eternal, Bharat Electronics, Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries, InterGlobe Aviation and Maruti Suzuki.

As of 1:17 pm, the SENSEX was up 206 points at 74,542 and NIFTY50 index advanced 103 points to 23,320.

Here are shares surging amid spike in trading activity:
India Cements: Shares of the Chennai-based cement maker advanced 7.2% to an intraday high of ₹358 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 23 times to 11.93 lakh share compared with an average volume of 52,399 shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE)

As many as 48,000 shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average of 4,389 shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers: Shares of the commodity chemicals maker advanced as much as 11% to an intraday high of ₹598.90 after Sanjeev Kumar, IAS, who serves as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Gujarat, was nominated and appointed as the managing director of the company effective from September 9, 2026, after former MD Rajkumar Beniwal relinquished his charges from the role.

Trading volume in the stock rose by 14 times to 69.80 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 4.89 lakh shares on the NSE.

A total of 3.34 lakh shares were traded on the BSE compared with its two-week average of 49,000 shares.

Syrma SGS: Shares of the industrial products maker advanced nearly 10% to an intraday high of ₹1,658 amid spike in trading activity.

Trading volume in the stock jumped by 7.4 times to 78.76 lakh shares as against an average volume of 10.67 lakh shares.

As many as 3.37 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE compared with an average volume of 2.25 lakh shares traded daily in the past two weeks.

New India Assurance: Shares of the general insurance company advanced as much as 9.35% to an intraday high of ₹201 as initial public offering of National Stock Exchange went live today.

New India Assurance owns 1.42% stake in the NSE and it is offloading 1.05 crore shares in the ongoing IPO.

Trading volume in the stock jumped 4.2 times to 2.5 crore shares compared with an average volume of 58.76 lakh shares.

Prime Focus: Shares of the media and entertainment company surged 17% to ₹343 amid spike in volumes.

Trading volume on the NSE jumped 4.5 times to 50.68 lakh shares compared with an average volume of 11.21 lakh shares.

On the BSE, as many as 2.01 lakh shares were traded as against its two-week average of 87,000 shares.
